OUR CHARITIES

THE CANBERRA ROTARY PEACE BELL TEAM

The Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin created the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell. We support a number of charities and Rotary projects.

WE PROUDLY SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING CHARITIES.

Rotary Foundation

2018

The Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.

During the past 100 years, the Foundation has spent $3 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world.

The Rotary Foundation difference.

Your donation makes a difference to those who need our help most. More than 90 percent of donations go directly to supporting our service projects around the world.

How does The Rotary Foundation use donations?

Our 35,000 clubs carry out sustainable service projects that support our six causes. With donations like yours, we’ve wiped out 99.9 percent of all polio cases. Your donation also trains future peacemakers, supports clean water, and strengthens local economies.

What impact can one donation have?

It can save a life. A child can be protected from polio with as little as 60 cents. Our partners make your donation go even further. For every $1 Rotary commits to polio eradication, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $2.

Rotary Fellowships

2018

Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 professionals from around the world to receive fellowships to study at one of our peace centers.

Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centres program develops leaders who become catalysts for peace and conflict prevention and resolution. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.
In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,000 fellows for careers in peacebuilding. Many of them are serving as leaders at international organisations or have started their own foundations.
Check out the Rotary Peace Map to see where our alumni are creating positive change.

Our fellowships

Each year, the Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 50 for certificate studies at premier universities around the world.
Master’s degree programs: Last 15 to 24 months and require a practical internship of two to three months during the academic break.
Professional development certificate program: For experienced professionals and lasts three months with two to three weeks of field study.

Shelter Box Australia

2018

ShelterBox is made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right – that shelter from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. No ifs. No buts.
When people are plunged into crisis, normality is suspended. But good, quality shelter can cut through the chaos. This is why Shelterbox provide the tools that enable people to rebuild homes and transform their lives.
Shelterbox do things differently. Shelterbox started life as a small organisation in rugged West Cornwall in the UK and have grown to make a big impact across the world. Shelterbox doesn’t follow the crowd – they’ve carved our own path that leads straight to the families we support.

Putting family first

ShelterBox is determined to see a world where no family goes without shelter when disaster strikes – it’s the sole reason we exist. Family comes first. Every decision ShelterBox make is based on the people they help, on transforming lives, on rebuilding hope.

Embracing change

Shelterbox is not scared of change; they embrace it, nurture it, encourage it. Every disaster is different and so is every response. ShelterBox keep evolving to make sure they get the exact support families need in the best possible way.

Building relationships

ShelterBox have strong bonds, just like the families they help. ShelterBox is made up of dedicated staff, supporters and volunteers. Together, we bring the knowledge, vitality and conviction to go further – faster.

Domestic Violence

2018

Africa Men’s Football Carnival.

Recently the Rotary Club supported the Celebrate Africa Men’s Football Carnival. The theme of this Carnival was the elimination of violence of all kinds and the promotion of harmony and cooperation between community members.

Chief Minister’s Rotary Peace Prize.

The Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin has joined with the ACT Chief Minister to annually award the Chief Minister’s Rotary Peace Prize.

The 2018 Chief Minister’s Rotary Peace Prize is awarded to the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom ACT Branch of US$1,000 donated in their name to the Rotary International Foundation which is Rotary’s major international charity.

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) envisions a world free from violence and armed conflict, in which human rights are protected, and women and men are equally empowered and involved in positions of leadership at the local, national and international levels.
