The impact of climate change on the Pacific Nations

Our Pacific Island neighbours are impacted daily by the climate crisis, yet they have contributed the least to the problem - Pacific nations account for only 0.03% of global greenhouse emissions.

The pacific is one of the most climate-vulnerable regions. Disasters such as cyclones, coastal flooding and food and water scarcity are becoming increasingly common as a result of climate change, endangering the lives and livelihoods of people who call the Pacific region home.

Pacific Islanders are some of the strongest voices holding world leaders to account and demanding urgent action to mitigate climate change.

Their legal campaign to hold big polluters to account and protect human rights has now gained global support and will be discussed at the highest court in the world next year - the International Court of Justice.

Everyone deserves the right to survival, equality, water, food, culture, education, health - all of these human rights are being massively impacted by climate change and protecting them is part of achieving climate justice.

Help us pressure the Australian government to be a climate leader and champion this initiative.

It is our responsibility to amplify Pacific voices and stand with them on the road to a safe climate and future.

The Rainbow Warrior in the Pacific

Greenpeace has a long and proud history of working alongside local communities to protect the oceans, lands, and people of the Pacific.

The Rainbow Warrior once again travelled to the Pacific — this time, in support of a groundbreaking Pasifika led legal campaign, taking climate harm to the world’s highest court, the International Court of Justice.

The Rainbow Warrior's return to the Pacific Islands was an opportunity to strengthen relationships and collaborate with communities, amplifying the visions of climate justice activists, and fostering discussion, talanoa, action, and friendship.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific is travelled to Vanuatu, Tuvalu and Fiji to celebrate beautiful cultural traditions and document human rights stories of the impacts of climate change.

These accounts will be included as part of the International Court of Justice submission process.

We are Uncle Pabai and Uncle Paul, proud First Nations leaders from Guda Maluyligal in the Torres Strait . We are on the Rainbow Warrior, making our way from Cairns to Vanuatu in solidarity with the Pasifika community who are leading a global legal campaign bringing climate change to the world’s highest court.
